UDS Scanning Solutions

Acquiring the images from your scanner
binuscan ColorPro allows you to acquire images from your scanner, using the standard scanner driver software, without having to use Photoshop. Scan directly from the desktop and save the images ready for layout.

Exporting the images from your PhotoCD
binuscan JobManager automatically chooses the correct resolution file from the Photo CD to include in your layout, based on the scale and crop performed in your layout, and your output resolution preferences.

Performing unmatched YCC/RGB conversion
binuscan IPM temporarily uses a wider color space to accommodate images during YCC to RGB conversion. This means that the converted files will maintain the maximum amount of shadow and highlight detail (which has been, until now, the biggest problem with Photo CD images).

Resizing
binuscan JobManager transfers any image resizing done in QuarkXPress to binuscan IPM. This means that the images will be written in the correct size based on the manipulations performed in Quark. In all cases, every image that is processed by binuscan IPM in QuarkXPress will always have the exact amount of pixels to optimize output.

Cropping
binuscan JobManager and binuscan IPM re-write the corrected files with all the Quark cropping information taken into account. Your RIP won't choke on the parts of your placed images that don't even show up in the layout.

Rotating
Images are re-written as they were rotated in Quark. No more re-calculation by the RIP!

Resampling
binuscan IPM uses intelligent algorithms to more accurately resample an image. You maintain more detail and color information with images resampled by binuscan.

Intelligent histogram analysis
binuscan IPM uses artificial intelligence to rebuild the histogram of your image, resulting in an image with perfect color depth and balance.

Image reconstruction (using RECO Technology)
binuscan IPM is able to intelligently interpolate color levels that were not originally captured by the scanning device and recenter the color levels in the human eye's perception range. This means that even an imperfect image will be rebuilt with the maximum amount of color information and a perfect histogram.

RGB color correction
binuscan IPM performs all its corrections in RGB mode. It uses 3-dimensional color correction tables which allow more accurate (and more selective) color correction and representation.

Unsharp masking
binuscan's advanced sharpening automatically adjusts sharpening based on image size and content, resulting in perfect sharpening on all types of images.

RGB to BW conversion
Since binuscan performs its corrections in RGB mode prior to BW conversion, and because it uses an advanced conversion method, more detail is maintained in the converted image, especially in shadow and highlight areas.

CMYK separation
binuscan's advanced RGB to CMYK separation routines (based on 30 years of color printing experience) mean that more color detail is retained and colors will be truer than with standard CMYK separations. Even typically out of gamut colors are reproduced faithfully when separated with binuscan.

TIFF, EPS or DCS output
binuscan IPM can output your files in any of these formats, depending on the preferred method in your production environment. EPS and DCS files can take advantage of binuscan's advanced screening technology by embedding screening within the file (which also saves RIP processing time and ensures high quality screening).

Optional JPEG compression
binuscan IPM uses advanced JPEG compression to maintain the highest possible level of detail, even in heavily compressed images. JPEG compression can be applied to EPS and DCS images. binuscan will also save pure JPEG images.

Automatic updating
binuscan IPM generates a high-quality preview of converted images, which is automatically updated to your Quark page. This allows you to accurately proof full color layouts from the desktop.

Professional features
With version 6.0, ColorPro includes functions that were previously only available in a higher-priced version, ColorPro Professional: autogradation, autobalance, autorange, suppress noise, black balance, inversion and double white for B&W images in newspapers. The latter feature makes the white areas in printed images look whiter than the paper itself.
These features are designed for users who have very high quality requirements (less than 2-3% deviation), users who scan negatives, users with unique printing requirements.
For newspapers and magazines, a special solution exists: ColorPro News.

All these features are performed automatically, in the background. The binuscan ColorPro package has been designed to fit in your production environment, greatly increasing the speed and quality of image processing. It is designed to automatically handle procedures that until now have required skilled operators and hours of work.

The capabilities can be expanded with the use of add-on libraries. Each library has a unique task and can perform additional input pre-processing or output post-processing.
